Verizon Communications, Inc. is an American multinational telecommunications company based in New York City. Formerly known as Bell Atlantic Corporation, Verizon has gone a long way from the 1984 Bell System breakup. Over the years, the business tycoon has managed to acquire several holdings and huge entities like AOL and Yahoo!. It has been rapidly growing and constantly expanding, birthing to vested subsidiaries such as the Verizon Media and the Verizon Wireless.
Verizon is becoming a one-stop-shop for any person’s digital needs. They offer various solutions, deals, and packages that guarantee smarter and faster access to the virtual world. They are well-known for the premium devices and accessories they offer, including cell phones. This includes the latest cell phones from Samsung, Apple, Motorola, Google, LG, OnePlus, and more.
As a consumer, one of the main concerns they have is what happens when their phone is lost or stolen. Is it possible to find their Verizon phone?
What To Do When Your Phone Is Lost
In this digital era, cell phones are no longer just accessories. These tiny electronic gadgets have become important tools for our day-to-day lives. Through these devices, people can access their banking accounts, communicate with others, store personal information, use social media, and much more. Hence, it’s a disaster when someone loses their cell phone.
Losing your phone could mean losing your personal and confidential data. So, before you worry about how to contact your loved ones or updating your social media accounts, think of how you can protect your sensitive information. You have to act quick as once your data falls into the wrong hands, there’s no turning back.
Here are some initial actions you can take as soon as you realize you’ve lost your phone.
- Secure All Accounts
Social media accounts, bank accounts, trading accounts, or business accounts – secure any account you’ve been accessing on your phone that may contain personal data or sensitive information. Change your login credentials and ensure to click on that “logout from other devices” option if there is one. When it comes to financial accounts, contact your bank or card provider to freeze your accounts if necessary.
- Remotely Wipe Data
With most cell phones, the owner has the ability to remotely wipe the phone’s data in the event it is lost or stolen. Some applications also offer this type of feature as well.
- Notify Verizon
Reach out to Verizon to see what they can do in regards to locking or locating your device. They could also help in tracking your device and recovering any data on your cell phone.
- Warn Your Contacts
To avoid your contacts becoming the targets of scams, advise them right away that your phone is missing. Tell them to disregard any posts, messages, or phone calls from your number or accounts until you secure and regain access to them.
3 Ways To Find Your Verizon Phone
Once you’ve secured your accounts and notified all involved parties, it’s time to start the hunt. Depending on your phone’s operating system, there’s a fair chance that you’ll still find it. You just have to be privy to the processes and requirements.
Android Device Manager
Now known as Google’s Find My Device, the Android Device Manager is an effective way to track Android devices. For this to work, however, your device must be turned on, linked with your Google account, and connected to the internet. Also, the Find My Device feature in Google settings, as well as the device’s location, should be enabled. To remotely find, lock, or erase data on your Android phone, you simply need to navigate to the Find My Device website or its mobile app version.
If your device’s location is turned off or your phone’s battery is drained, you can use the Timeline feature of Google Maps to view the last recorded location of your device. This could be a good lead to finding your cell phone.
Another option is through Google Photos. If you’ve enabled Backup & Sync and your device is connected to the internet, you can track it as soon as the person who currently has it takes a photo. Through this feature, you can view the captured image and the location where it was taken or uploaded.
Find My iPhone
If you have an iPhone through Verizon, you can locate it through the Find My iPhone service. This offers several useful features like locating your phone on a map, playing a sound on your device, locking and tracking your gadget through Lost Mode, and remotely wiping your data. You can also enable Activation Lock, a feature designed to make it more difficult for a non-owner to use or sell the device.
Thanks to the upgraded Find My App, finding an offline or dead iPhone has been made possible. To do so, you’ll be needing another iPhone device.
- On the Find My App, click on the Devices tab.
- When the map pops up, select your iPhone from the list of devices.
- Tap Directions to lead you to your iPhones’ general location.
- If the iPhone is offline, but not dead, you can tap Play Sound to help you locate your iPhone.
- If the iPhone is dead, you can toggle on Notify When Found to send notifications and a location update the next time your iPhone is turned on.
If you’ve pre-installed a cell phone tracking app on your device, then locating it will just be a piece of cake. Regardless of which app you have on your device, you should be able to remotely access it or view the real-time location by simply logging on to an online account or accessing the app’s cloud.
Track It Before It Even Gets Lost
Using and setting up Find My iPhone, Android Device Manager, or another tracking app before your phone gets lost is your best precautionary measure. Specifically for Verizon, they offer the Verizon Mobile Protection plan which includes the Digital Secure app. With it, you can lock your cell phone, delete your data, and locate your phone. In the event your phone is long gone, the protection plan allows you to replace your cell phone.
Certain circumstances are basically out of our control. We have to bear in mind that an ounce of prevention is always better than a pound of cure. Do what you can to prepare your Verizon phone if it happens to go missing or is stolen.
