Your phone rings, you excitedly look to see who it is thinking it’s one of your friends. But instead, there is no caller ID. You decline the call, but your mind is racing trying to figure out who is contacting you. Is it good news or bad news? Will they leave a voicemail or call back? If you’ve ever gotten a call with no caller ID, here’s how to find out who it is!
Types of Unknown Calls
We’ve all gotten a call from an unknown number before and have let it go to voicemail. Thinking if it’s an important call, they will leave a message or text you. But when they don’t leave a voicemail, it leaves you wondering, who was this mystery caller?
– Spoof Calls
Have you ever received a phone call from a number that was almost identical to your phone number? This is considered spoof calling. The FCC defines spoof calling as:
“When a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. Spoofing is often used as part of an attempt to trick someone into giving away valuable personal information so it can be used in fraudulent activity or sold illegally, but also can be used legitimately, for example, to display the toll-free number for a business.”
– Scam Calls
The FTC warns about these common scam calls:
- You’ve won a sweepstakes or lottery but have to send money to take delivery.
- Your assets are frozen until a fake debt, fine or lien is paid.
- The caller is going to help you recover funds lost in a scam.
- The caller claims to be collecting back taxes or immigration fees.
If you get a call along these lines, hang up the phone immediately, record the date, time and phone number, and details of the scam and report it here.
– Your Loved One Keeps Getting A Call From The Same Number
If you’ve been noticing an unknown phone number contacting your loved one regularly, it’s definitely something to raise suspicion over. Whether it be an affair, or some kind of financial trouble, they’ve gotten into you’ll want to find out who is behind that number. The truth may hurt, but it will set you free.
– Potential Employer
If you’re on the hunt for a new career and giving out your resume, you may be getting calls from numbers that are unfamiliar to you. Employers don’t always leave a voicemail and you certainly don’t want to miss out on any opportunities. Figuring out which organizations have called you so you can follow up will put you ahead of the game.
– Attempt to Collect a Debt
You may be getting calls from a number with no caller ID and you don’t recognize the number. It could be a law firm or debt collection agency in an attempt to collect or settle a debt. Knowing who you are dealing with will allow you to show up for the call prepared with all the facts and a plan in place.
Unknown Phone Number Directory
Before you pick up the phone or call back any of these calls with no caller ID, use an Unknown Phone Number Directory. You simply enter the phone number and within a few moments you will receive the results. The report will include the name of the owner of the phone number, the carrier, names of previous owners, the type of phone line, and more. Use the Unknown Phone Number Directory to filter out spam and spoof callers. Or to find out who’s calling or texting your loved one.
Once you find out who the owner of the phone number is, you can take things a step further and run a Person Search on them. Find out information such as email addresses, social media profiles, current & previous address, job & education history, criminal background, and more.
After you’ve identified the caller and decide if they are safe to call back, or if they are spam, you should go ahead and block them.
