It appears that the n-word using Hulkster still has some fans.
Disgraced former WWE star Hulk Hogan is back in the public eye after a 2012 audio of him using racial slurs in regard to his daughter’s boyfriend came to light in late July of this year. Instantly, the Hulkster, born Terry Bollea, saw his once luminous career fall into shadow when the WWE fired him upon learning of the recording.
“I was at the lowest point of my life, to the point where I wanted to kill myself.” —Hulk Hogan on ABC News
The former tough guy wants fans to know that he’s not a racist—despite what the recording shows. “Please forgive me,” he asked of his fans. “I’m a nice guy … not the Hulk Hogan that rips his shirt off and—bang bang—slams giants. I’m Terry Bollea, I’m just a normal man.”
This isn’t the first time Hogan’s been in hot water. The WWE stripped its website, including its Hall of Fame section, of Hogan’s image and name after they learned he used racial slurs in a 2005 sex tape that’s at the center of a lawsuit he’s filed against Gawker Media. Hogan sued Gawker for $100 million after the site posted clips from the video online in October 2012.
“I’m not a racist,” insisted the Hulkster. “But a lot of people need to realize that you inherit things from your environment, and where I grew up in South Tampa, it was a rough neighborhood, very low income, and we greet each other saying that word. The word was just thrown around like it was nothing!”
THE HULKSTER IS BACK— AND HE’S NOT TALKING BLACK
Now, Hogan is teaming up with one of the biggest fantasy sports gambling websites on the market today: Fanpicks.com. Check out part of the official press release below:
Fanpicks.com Names Hulk Hogan as Official Spokesman, Revolutionary Fantasy League site Appoints Sports Icon
September 11 — FanPicks.com is pleased to announce that Terry “Hulk Hogan” Bollea will be the fantasy sports site’s official spokesman. The mercurial WWE Hall of Fame legend and sports icon has been selected due to both his enormous popularity with fans the world-over and his love of sports. FanPicks.com has no doubt that the beloved athlete will lead his loyal fans to the site in his latest role as “Brand Ambassador”.
Hogan was the main contributor to the success of professional wrestling during his time with the WWE beginning in the 70s, helping to turn the sport into a mainstream product. The FanPicks.com team is betting that “the Hulkster” will do the same for Daily Fantasy Sports.
Fan Picks is clearly aware that Hogan is carrying some major baggage, but a spokesman for the site said, “We all make mistakes and deserve second chances.”
As for the Hulkster, he’s thanking his lucky stars and hoping his loyal fans will stick by his side. “I am looking forward to connecting with all my Hulkamaniacs during some of the biggest games of the year and at upcoming Fan Pick live events in the near future.”
